The maintenance dose is usually 2 mg once daily, which may be adjusted based on the patient’s condition, up to a maximum of 4 mg once daily.

A sudden drop in uric acid levels early in treatment may trigger gouty arthritis; therefore, treatment should begin with a dose of 0.5 mg, followed by gradual increases to 1 mg after 2 weeks and 2 mg after 6 weeks, with careful monitoring required after each dose increase.
